Lightning: 11 killed in Jaipur, 8 killed in three states

Eight people were killed in lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on Sunday. 18 people were seriously injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the incident. At least 11 people have died while trying to build their own Watchtower in Jaipur.

In Uttar Pradesh alone, 41 people were killed by lightning. In Rajasthan, the number is 20. Of the dead in Rajasthan, 11 were from Jaipur, four from Kota, three from Dholpur, one from Jalwar and one from Baran. At least 11 people have been killed in two lightning strikes in 40 minutes at a Watch Tower in Jaipur’s Amer area. I know they got in there and took it on their own. The injured were rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and former Chief Minister Bashundhara Raje Scindia also expressed grief over the incident.
