Kovid 19: The third wave in Shearer, crisis service rises in 89 hospitals

The Department of Health wants to prepare in advance for the treatment of critically ill patients with education from the second wave of epilepsy. The Department of Health has issued guidelines for setting up 24-bed ‘hybrid critical care units’ in Kolkata and 23 districts of the state (including health districts), from wartime medical colleges to hospitals at various levels. The unit will be set up in 69 hospitals in the state.

The guidelines, signed by Soumitra Mohan, state director of the National Health Mission on September 6, said the system should be put in place as soon as possible considering the corona situation. All hospital authorities and the district chief health officer must submit a detailed report on the plan and cost of building the unit by September 12. In the words of a health official, “CCU and HDU are in one place. This project is called the Hybrid Critical Care Unit.”

Alipurdur, Birbhum, Kochbihar, Howrah, Hooghly, Jalpaiguri, North 24 Parganas, East Burdwan Three, Bankura Six, South Dinajpur, Diamond Harbor, Malda, Nandigram Health District, West Burdwan, Purulia Durga, North Five each, East Midnapore seven, Jargram one, Nadia and East Midnapore one each.

According to sources, the second wave of infection caused problems in getting HDU beds. Because in most places that service was not available. Serious patients may have to travel long distances to receive a CCU or HDU. Treatment was delayed due to wastage of time.

In the coming days, it will be convenient for the critical patients in the district to get treatment if the services of the medical college, district, sub-division, rural and super specialty level hospitals are introduced, in view of the third wave of monitoring by the health department. According to the guidelines, 24 beds (CCU-6, HDU-18) will be built in hospitals that do not have that service. 8-12 beds should be added inside. The Health Building has provided some guidelines for creating this unit. For example, try building a unit on the ground floor of a hospital. It can only be done upstairs if there is an elevator. There are rules for constructing entrances, exits, doors and windows. If there are 24 beds in one place, 3500 square feet will work. Separated, it will take up 1500 square feet for the CCU and 2500 square feet for the HDU.

The HDU should have two isolation cubicles surrounded by clear glass. Each bed is required to store an additional 20 percent of the space, 100-125 square feet. In that unit, medical officers, nurses, and paramedics must keep their homes together. Guidelines also range from lighting and oxygen-dialysis systems to unit temperatures, noise levels, and medical waste treatment.

State Health Director Ajay Chakraborty said there are six beds in the state for the treatment of critically ill patients. Approximately 1000 more beds will be added to handle the third wave. The 69 hospitals in the state will have 1898 beds, both old and new.
