Covid-19 third precautionary vaccine dose: Covishield or Covaxin? Register on CoWIN or walk-in? Here’s all you need to know

Kovid-19 Third Precautionary Vaccine Dose: According to the latest update shared by the Ministry of Health, beneficiaries eligible for the third precautionary dose of Kovid-19 vaccine can either book an appointment online or go to any vaccination center. Leading Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s activists, health workers, people over the age of 60 and those with ailments are eligible to get the third vaccine from January 10.

A source close to the Ministry of Health told the Indian Express that new registrations at CoWIN are not required as those who take two doses can make an appointment directly online or walk to any vaccination center. The source, who did not want to be identified, said the online appointment facility will be open for registration from this (Saturday) evening.

After weeks of deliberation on the need and efficacy of the third dose, the Central Government finally announced that the precautionary dose would be the same vaccine that the beneficiaries had taken in their first and second dose. The order, announced last week by the Ministry of Health, means that beneficiaries who have been vaccinated with the Kovshield vaccine will only be given the third dose of Kovishild. Similarly, those who have been vaccinated with covaxin will receive an additional covaxin dose.

In the wake of the threat posed by the Omicron variant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25 announced a third precautionary dose for senior activists, health workers and senior citizens over 60 years of age. Prime Minister Modi had announced that vaccination of children between the ages of 15 and 18 would be started. Vaccination for children (15-18) will start on January 3, while precautionary dose vaccination will start on Monday (January 10, 2022).

As feared for the past few weeks, the country is witnessing a third wave of the corona virus, which is backing up the highly contagious omicron variant. According to the Ministry of Health, the country has seen 1.41 lakh new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, with a significantly higher positivity rate of 9.28 per cent. The active caseload has reached 4.72 lakh across the country in the last one week due to the sharp increase in Kovid-19 cases.
