Black fungus, also known by its medical name Mucormycosis in English, is a very rare but deadly disease. There is no need to be afraid as this fungus does not affect everyone; Attention and awareness are enough. Steroid medications taken to recover from an illness temporarily reduce our body’s ability to fight off the germs that use the black fungus that lives in the air around us, juicy fruits and vegetables, and mixes with our blood through the eyes and mouth.
The disease first affected thousands of people in India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat, and has now spread to Tamil Nadu. In Madurai district alone, more than 50 people have been affected by the disease.
