Yas: 75 disaster response troops deployed off South Bengal, Orissa

On May 26, Hurricane Yas posed a threat to the coasts of West Bengal and Orissa. Earlier, Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gowda had met the National Disaster Management Committee. He suggested that all preparations be made before the disaster. In this case, he suggested paying special attention as there is no problem in Kovid care centers and hospitals.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of Mausam Bhaban and other officials. People were evacuated from low-lying areas of the coast before the disaster. The committee has been asked to ensure that there is no shortage of food, water, medicine and other necessities. The Center said that 75 teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in both the states. And 20 more teams are ready. If necessary, they will be hired. The Army, Navy and Coast Guard are also ready. If necessary, they will come down with rescue and other assistance.

The Center says the current depression in the East-Central Bay of Bengal is gradually accumulating. The Navy monitors the nature of the low pressure movement. Four ships of the Navy have been prepared under the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). Ships with relief and other equipment will reach the coasts of West Bengal and Orissa. Also prepared by INS Dega in Visakhapatnam and INS Rasali in Chennai. The Center said the naval aircraft would evacuate residents from the worst-hit areas if necessary.
