The Trinamool Congress has said it will raise the issue of extending the BSF’s jurisdiction in West Bengal.
The Union Home Ministry had recently ordered an increase in the strength of the Border Security Force (BSF) on the international border in Punjab, Assam and West Bengal. This means that the Border Security Force has the power to raid or apprehend the culprits within a radius of 50 km from the border. Prior to this, the Border Security Force was only 15 km away.
Sougata Roy
According to Trinamool Congress MP Chaudhary Roy, the Trinamool Congress will bring a resolution in the West Bengal Assembly next week against the central government’s decision (increasing the BSF’s jurisdiction). This action of the Central Government would interfere with the jurisdiction of the State. We will raise this issue in Parliament. He said the border fence should be done by the central government and the state supports it.
Mamata Banerjee
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi protesting against the federal government’s decision to increase the BSF’s jurisdiction in the state. Mamata Banerjee also alleged that the Center was trying to interfere in the federal structure of the country by increasing the jurisdiction of the BSF.
