The court then issued an order allowing the withdrawal of the election notice at the request of the Election Commission. It also ordered that a new election notice be issued within 5 days. The State Election Commission has withdrawn the local body election notification citing the High Court order. Referring to the High Court order, the Puducherry government said it would withdraw the notification issued in 2019 allotting 33.5 per cent to backward classes and 0.5 per cent to tribals in the local body elections.

This is a huge controversy. The court said the current notice would be withdrawn. Instead, the DMK filed a case alleging that it did not ask for the reservation to be withdrawn. The court also asked the Election Commission to suspend the election process by raising the same question. In this case, the State Election Commission filed a case in the Supreme Court seeking permission to hold the local elections for 4 months.
