The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a second suspected Ebola-related infection.
“In terms of numbers, there are two cases, one of which has been confirmed, is a young woman with a suspected infection,” World Health Organization spokesman Tariq Yazarevich said in a statement in Geneva on Tuesday. He added, “There are currently nine people who have been in contact with the identified young woman.”
The first case of Ebola hemorrhagic fever was discovered in the financial capital, Abidjan, on Saturday, when an 18-year-old Guinean citizen arrived in Ivory Coast on August 11 from the northern city of Labe. 1,500 km by road.
The patient is currently being treated at a hospital in Abidjan, while a campaign to vaccinate health workers against the Ebola virus began Monday.
“We know the patient lived here before she went to the hospital, so everyone around her had to be vaccinated,” said Ivory Coast Health Minister Pierre Demba.
He hopes that the number of those who traveled with her and those who came in contact with these passengers will “reach two thousand in the coming days.”
The search for the woman’s relatives in Guinea continues.
“Currently, all of her family members are in an isolation center with us, and we are continuing our investigation to identify those who came in contact with them,” said Dr. Mamadou Hadi Diallo, director of health at the lab.
