The water level in the Bhavani Sagar Dam rose to 4,922 cubic feet and the water supply to the Bhavani River and the Lower Bhavani was suspended yesterday.
The Bhavani Sagar Dam, the main water source of Erode district, irrigates 2 lakh 47,000 acres of land in Erode, Tirupur and Karur districts. The Nilgiris are the main catchment area of the 105 feet Bhavani Sagar Dam.

The Bhavani Sagar Dam has been flooded due to heavy rains in the last few days. With this, the water level in the dam is rising. Thus water was released from the Bhavani Sagar Dam into the Keerpavani Canal and the Bhavani River. In this situation, the discharge of water from Bhavanisagar Dam to Lower Bhavani Canal and Bhavani River was stopped yesterday.
The water level in Bhavani Sagar Dam was 102.78 feet till yesterday morning. The dam receives 4,922 cubic feet of water per second. The dam alone discharges 500 cubic feet of water for irrigation at Thadappally Arakkankotta.
