A third dose of one Kovid-19 vaccine was injected into at least one million health and senior workers and senior citizens with comorbidities as the center released what are called precautionary doses on Monday.
According to data available on the CoWIN dashboard, the country administered 1,051,456 third-dose doses to eligible people, with the maximum (179,339) doses given at 1 p.m. Approximately 315,000 doses were given to senior citizens with comorbidities.
People familiar with the developments said that the vaccination process went smoothly without any major problems.
“The day went very smoothly as far as the Covin system is concerned; Nothing significant was brought to our attention. Our system is very powerful and designed to carry the kind of load expected in a country like ours. It was a good day, ”said RS Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, National Health Authority, which oversees the operation of the CoWIN portal.
Third doses are part of the government’s next step on corona virus vaccination, which comes at a time when the country is in the grip of a third wave, the highly transmissible omiciron variant. On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the third dose to all health and leading workers as citizens with comorbidities aged 60 and over are at higher risk of developing serious illness. Relevant groups will be allowed to take the third dose only if the second dose was taken nine months ago.
