Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that a maximum service tax of Rs 150 can be levied on private hospitals. Within 24 hours of the announcement, the Center had set the highest price for Kovichield, Kovacin and Sputnik V vaccines for private hospitals.
At a private hospital, the Kovshield vaccine costs Rs 80, the Kovacin vaccine Rs 1,410 and the Sputnik V vaccine Rs 1,145, the Center said on Tuesday. The Center said that Rs 150 including service and other taxes has been included in the price.
The Center has directed the states to ensure that private hospitals do not charge more than the prescribed price. The Center has directed to take action against any hospital for accepting more money under the Infectious Diseases Act.

The Center has quoted Rs 44 crore, the Health Ministry said after the Prime Minister’s announcement
The Prime Minister has announced major immunizations for those over 18 years of age. A total of Rs 44 crore has been sanctioned by the Union government, according to the Union Health Ministry. The vaccine will be delivered to the center in August. This includes 25 crore cove shields and 19 crore covassins. The decision was taken by the Center to expedite the overall immunization drive in the country.
