A complete curfew was imposed for more than 3 months on the first wave of corona virus. At that time the livelihood of the people was severely affected and there was a shortage of food. To save the people, Prime Minister Modi’s Kareeb Kalyan Annayojana gave 5 kg extra grain per person. Millions of people have benefited from this program.

Against this backdrop, an awareness program on the Kareeb Kalyan Annayojana was held in Gujarat. Speaking to the beneficiaries of the scheme through a video, Prime Minister Modi said that the charcoal marriage scheme was started to ensure food security of the people. Millions of families have been provided with free foodgrains through rations. He was proud to say that no one was starving during the curfew because of the action taken by the central government.
He went on to say that the food crisis has been alleviated through the Kareeb Kalyan project. In Gujarat alone, 3.5 crore people have benefited from the scheme. He said the project would continue till Diwali.
