Bangalore: VK Sasikala, who is lodged in jail on a charge of illegal acquisition of property, will not be released soon. Prison authorities rejected Shashikala’s request for commutation of sentence and release before jail term. Authorities said he should complete his sentence. Shashikala had applied for a four-month reprieve. AIADMK leader VK Sasikala is currently lodged in the Bangalore Parappana Agrahara Jail. Shashikala can now be released only after completing her sentence.
Shashikala was sentenced by the Supreme Court to four years in jail and fined Rs 10 crore in a case of illegal acquisition of property. He faces up to four years in prison on January 27. Shashikala had paid a fine of Rs 10 crore imposed by the Supreme Court in the Bangalore Special Court. If the fine is not paid, he faces up to a year in prison.
Meanwhile, with the release of Shashikala from jail, there is strong concern in the Anna DMK. Shashikala’s return will be a major headache for her in the run – up to the Assembly elections.
