According to health sources, samples of corona victims from Hooghly were sent on August 2 to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics or NIBMG in Kalyani. In one of them, a new mutation of the delta virus (AY4) was detected in the sample. In August, the Union Health Ministry said in a report that Bengal, like other states, had three Delta Plus variants. The state health department did not have any further information on the matter at the time. The department later reported that on July 17, Delta first discovered a new mutation (AY3) in a sample. It was called Delta Plus.
