Cocktail therapy is basically a combination of two monoclonal antibodies: kazirivimab and indivimab. Both are specialized antibodies in the language of science, the immunoglobulin G1. These prevent the virus from entering the cell. This type of antibody acts on a specific part of the virus called the spike protein. This is called cocktail antibody therapy because the two antibodies combine.
However, although this method has worked in previous versions of Covid such as Delta, experts are convinced that this method will not work in the case of omiciron. This was stated by Dr. Soutik Panda on Anand Bazaar Online ‘Varsha Takuk’ program on Facebook and YouTube Live. Coincidentally, Sourav Ganguly’s cocktail treatment was supervised by him. According to Soutik Babu, cocktail therapy is not effective against this form due to the proliferation of spike protein in omega. “Because there are 32 mutations in spike protein, this cocktail will not work on omicron,” he said.
Since this method is very expensive and most of the current Kovid patients are affected by omega, there are some exceptions but at present doctors are not very interested in this treatment. This cocktail therapy is excluded from the newly published central guidelines.
