The Nipah virus that infected Kerala in 2018 is spreading again. An 11-year-old boy who was being treated for symptoms of the Nipah virus died tragically yesterday morning. The health department was shocked to learn that he had died within hours of being diagnosed with the Nipah virus.

The health department later identified 251 people who had been in contact with the boy. 38 of them have been admitted to the hospital after being found to be from Kozhikode area. Eleven of them showed symptoms and samples of 8 were sent to a laboratory in Pune. State Health Minister Veena George said they were not affected. He said the health of some others with symptoms was stable and their samples were sent to the laboratory.
