Experts warn that a third wave of corona is coming. Therefore, the South 24 Parganas district administration has decided to provide antidote to 100 per cent of the residents of Rajpur-Sonarpur and Maheshtala municipalities adjoining Kolkata. From now on, 25,000 antidotes will be issued to two municipalities each week, South 24 Parganas District Magistrate P Ulganathan said.
According to sources, 239,000 people have so far received the first dose in the Rajpur-Sonarpur municipality area. Pallab Das, head of administration of Rajpur-Sonarpur municipality, claimed that two doses of 36,006 people had been completed. However, he claimed that many residents of the Pur area had taken antidotes from various government and private hospitals. The municipality does not have their information. As a result, the number of residents taking antidotes is higher than the municipality’s statistics, he claimed.
On Tuesday, he held a meeting with MLAs and board members in Sonarpur-Rajpur municipality. Municipal sources said officials at various borough offices have been instructed to maximize the number of camps in the municipality’s 35 wards and provide at least 30,000 vaccines a week.
According to Maheshthala Municipality sources, 237,000 people in 35 wards of the municipality have so far taken the first dose. Two doses of 30,000 people have been taken. Sukant Bera, a member of the municipality’s administrative board, said, “Since Tuesday, 65 camps have been set up in various wards of the municipality.” Arrangements are being made to provide immunizations to the citizens through an immediate campaign.
According to district administration officials, the state government has recently been working on the Lakshmi Bhandar and Duare government project. That is why there was no further monitoring in the defense camp. The work is slow. But the third wave of the corona is imminent. That is why arrangements are being made to provide antidote on an emergency basis. Initially, the emphasis was on the municipalities adjoining Kolkata. In the next phase, emergency camps will be set up in the municipalities and panchayats of the district on an emergency basis. Arrangements have already been made to provide preventive measures in case of emergencies in consultation with block level administrators.
District Magistrate P Ulganathan said, “Prevention camps have been set up on various islands in the Sunderbans and 81 per cent of the people in the Gosaba block have been vaccinated.
