The serum company told the federal government that it could produce and distribute 100 million doses of cowhide shields in June amid growing complaints about the vaccine shortage.
The vaccine is seen as the biggest weapon in the war against corona. Federal and state governments are stepping up efforts to provide immunizations to the general public. Currently, only two companies produce the vaccine. Thus supply is less than demand. In the last few days, Maharashtra and Delhi have closed vaccination centers for people between the ages of 18 and 44.
Many states say their vaccine is only needed for a few days. Under these circumstances, the Serum Institute of India has informed the Central Government that it will be able to produce and distribute 100 million doses of Covshield vaccine by June.
In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Serum Government and Order Director Prakash Kumar Singh said, “We are pleased to announce that our cow shield vaccine can produce between 9 and 10 crore doses in June. In May, our production capacity reached 6.5 crore doses. This will increase the supply of vaccines in the coming months so more people can be vaccinated.
